Personal & Tailored
Support Lessons
for School Subjects

I offer several types of lessons for school subjects, both face-to-face in my own home and via Skype or Facetime. Many students with Learning Difficulties need extra support to help with the mechanics of working, for example:

  • Putting ideas into writing
  • Organising essays
  • Note-taking
  • Reading for and extracting information

I have been a teacher in mainstream schools of students with special needs for many years, and much of my work has involved helping in this way. A student with visual processing difficulties, for example, can be daunted by the huge amounts of reading required for arts subjects at GCSE and especially ‘A’ and degree level. Students with organisational problems may need help with planning essays, or even with finding ways of organising themselves. I can also offer support for the more personal aspect of managing your own learning.

Skype/Facetime Support lessons

I am available to work with students via Skype/Facetime at pre-arranged times. As this will be a new way of working for many students, I offer a free 20 minute lesson to see if the method suits. If you decide to go ahead, I would ask that lessons are paid for in advance, either four at a time, or 10 for longer term support. The advance payment is because I am reliant on students being organised about their contact timing, emailing me drafts in advance and so on. There is no charge for 24 hour cancellations.

How it works:

Students will need a workspace free from other interruptions. I can use Skype lessons to help with planning and drafting, or simply to discuss difficulties. Skype has a shared screen facility which is very useful for this kind of help. Facetime does not, but is the program most readily available on iPads. Students can email me a draft essay with which they need help. I will put this up on my computer screen. My iPad camera is focused on this, so that as we discuss, I can type in changes and additions, and the student can see these via Skype. I then email the improved work back to the student.

Lessons can last 30, 40 or 60 minutes, depending on the needs of the individual. Costs will vary, so please contact me directly to discuss.
