Liz Sheard was a huge influence during my time at Stowe. I struggled a lot with my dyslexia and writing skills but Liz was excellent at helping me overcome these difficulties. It’s been truly helpful to me now that I’m running my own business and without Liz’s skills and influence I would have continued to struggle.
Thomas is one of a handful of UK craftsmen who has been trained in the sixteenth century techniques of pietra dura, the technique of using cut and fitted, highly polished coloured stones inlaid in marble to create images. Having served apprenticeships in a number of pietra dura workshops in Florence – where he was taught by some of the most eminent Florentine craftsmen in mosaics – Thomas established Greenaway Mosaics in 2010. In 2014 Thomas was commissioned to create the coat of arms for Richard III’s tomb in Leicester Cathedral (pictured) which was unveiled in March 2015.
Just thought I’d email you to let you know how I did! I got an A in English! I know I could never have done it without you and I am so utterly grateful. You gave me the skills and confidence that my school could never have given me. I have been given an offer by Exeter uni at their Penryn Campus in Cornwall. Once again I am incredibly thankful for all the help and effort you put into me, you have really made a huge and positive impact on my future (and I hope to see you in it still!).

Liz has been an enormous help in the success I have enjoyed in my post-graduate studies. I have been able to achieve 1st class marks in my essays thanks to her support. She is easy to converse with and very encouraging. Liz works with me to make my own work come across in the best possible light. She is a fantastic sounding board to flesh out my ideas.

Aside from being an excellent teacher, Liz has the ability to encourage confidence and self-belief which, for someone with dyslexia, is key. My son moved up two grades in a year under Liz’s tuition and we were delighted with his results.

With the utmost professionalism and care, Liz has taught English and supported all age-ranges in her many years at Stowe. She brought life to texts with even the most challenging of pupils and patiently encouraged, explained and saw immense improvements in all of those who sought her help in one-to one sessions in many differing subjects.

The school’s recommended external assessor is Ms Elizabeth Sheard. Her reports are always detailed and thorough and can give excellent recommendations in teaching and learning strategies.
We found that the state sector isn’t really that well geared up to identifying or helping children and young people who are dyslexic if they are within the normal range of achievement. At the beginning of 6th form we found Liz Sheard who recognised Sam’s difficulties, which was in itself a relief. She helped guide us through the assessment process and secured extra time in exams which was invaluable. As a result we also had the confidence to get Sam’s difficulties recognised at University and get him some extra help.

Dear Mrs Sheard,
I would just like to thank you for all the work you’ve put in with me, I would not have been able to cope by myself. I got BBC in the end and, through clearing, a place at Manchester. All in all, it went rather well and without your help I don’t think it could have come to this. Once again, many thanks and good luck with the next version of me!

We were delighted to hear Tom’s GCSE English result yesterday. He was so happy and I think it has given him added impetus for his AS levels. As you know Tom very well, you don’t need me to tell you how important every little success is to him. He was a bit doubtful about whether or not he could pull off a C for English, but he did and well done him. Many thanks to you for all the time and effort you have put into him. He always speaks very highly of you and you both have hit it off very well together over the years, which is most important.
Once again many thanks for all your efforts on his behalf.
I would like to say a big thank you for all the help you provided me with throughout my final year. I know at times I was a bit of a pain, but I could not have asked for anyone better to help me with personal statements, history of art essays, and art essays!
Thank you again for all your help.
Charlie, Student 2014
We found Liz Sheard to be helpful, endlessly patient, and always made herself available to answer any questions. She has a broad knowledge and understanding of learning difficulties and was able to try various different approaches to find the one that best suited Hugh. We would highly recommend her.
